On the 24th of September, the students of the Daktari Outreach Programme celebrated Heritage Day at the Oaks. Many people were there to see some amazing performances: Gumboot, traditional songs, poems… The show aimed at remembering what the ancestors have left behind, but not only what is in the past, what is in the future too. To do so, the main message was to encourage the community to respect and look after the environment and the animals.
The Maahlamele Outreach Programme students attend a nature conservation course after school every week, not because it is compulsory, but because they want to learn more. Environmental awareness is a priority for Daktari Bush School & Wildlife Orphanage and the best way to succeed is through education.
